My thoughts on "that interview" with french bread

I should explain before I even start talking about this. First there was an interview by 4gamer with the developers of the new Under the Night Inbirth Frenchbread (Here). Then beastnote covered the article in a summary of what was said. So you probably want to read what beast note covered before you can understand what I am going to talk about.

I think a lot of people are taken by surprise they wanted to do Meltyblood HD since Eltnum was leftover assets done to show Typemoon how Meltyblood HD would look like. I should also declare here that I really dislike how Typemoon works and Typemoon as a company in general. That doesn't mean I don't like Meltyblood or Tsukihime in general. (Side note I really hate the fate series. Just a personal bias thing. Not writing an article unless someone really wants me to come out and say why)

So Meltyblood HD. Typemoon's stand is that as long as Nasu is not free to write a new story for Meltyblood HD, French bread cannot work on it. This led to interesting responses from some folks who play/like melty.

First some people were displeased realizing Typemoon will on work that Mahou series regarding Aoko's history. Personally if I was Typemoon I would do that as well, it is after the new stuff they are pushing out. Second comes the very big disappointment that people realize they won't see a new melty or any beep of news for at least 2 years later knowing how Typemoon works.

Here's where I would want to explain some stuff a lot of people would not realize even if we do get Meltyblood HD or whatever title they would call it. (Meltyblood Hemihedral Dawn or something like that. Yeah I just whipped up some words I pulled from the internet). You will lose 3 quarters of the cast from the current meltyblood. Then you will be expecting a system change from the current one.

Would you as a person who been playing a game for like a few years would really want such an overhaul? Here let me explain the whole thing.

Most people are not aware what the sprite count for the current Meltyblood is. You are talking about 28 characters and 3 different Moon animations. Granted there are clones but it is still a good 20 plus characters to animate if you want to port everything to HD.

Remember when Blazblue first came out? It had only 12 characters. The current version has 19 characters. That took them about 3 years to have 7 more characters in the game. Though Arcsys has been getting a lot faster at producing HD 2D animations like the next version is 3 more characters.

With that in mind, getting a Meltyblood HD with just a visual upgrade alone would take probably 3 years if they worked and crunched like crazy.

Even if they did it, where will Meltyblood stand? A 5 year old game with old mechanics and just a visual update? Would that get more new people interested?

Melty is currently at major crossroad and to be frank, the current Meltyblood is done. I seriously hope from my explanation you can see why French bread went about to make a new game then work on Melty. First it would be something new though it will take some work to get people into it. Second it is difficulty to maintain the kind of working relationship with Typemoon if they need to listen to everything from them and get no freedom to do what they can to.

If you wondered am I sad I am not getting to see a HD version of meltyblood, personally I am fine. Though I am not fine with the fact that Meltyblood did not even a proper release or a console one (I hate Typemoon). I hope people can see why from my thoughts why French Bread shouldn't be working on Meltyblood anymore as much as I want them to personally.

As for UNiB, the game has issues. That is big topic to cover itself and I have some reservations about how the game is progressing. We will see. I need to give it a bit more time before I can say if it is fine so far.
